This is the first of a 'wired' bundle. This form of cheap utility fencing actually creates wonderful patterns and shadows and because of its flimsy nature gets messed about rather a lot.
I have varied the images as much as possible in a number of different ways.
REQUEST: I have never before posted such a large bundle together on the same theme and thus I would like honesty if the ''Chestnut paling'' set begin to pall before it is fully posted.

This looks very much like my own handiwork Richard - the erection of the fence I mean. Maybe I have a similarly DIY gifted cousin somewhere
Richard Trim: You are too modest young man. richard
Love the angles and geometry of the fence.
Richard Trim: Thanks Jewlya ... the patterns and shadows are what attracted me in the first place. richard
I like this one in B&W. The fence has seen better days, but that is what makes it so interesting. Looking forward to the series.
Richard Trim: I suppose it could almost be labelled as 'early stages of grunge'. richard
I bet Chris Phillips put this fence up after he finished painting his front door!
Great composition though, Richard. I like the mix of materials on show. I do wonder if this might look good in colour.
Richard Trim: Hey! Leave me out of the banter between you two guys...
I've got some in some sort of colour to follow if you haven't fallen asleep by then ... ( Remember Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz) richard
This is a good start, though the lighting is a little harsh - I'm guessing it's midday. 7 is a relatively modest number for a series so I'm sure we won't die of boredom!
Ingrid
Richard Trim: Seven maybe modest to you Ingrid but for the likes of me with short concentration spans ;-), it's like unwinding a whole roll of kitchen wipes. You will be allowed to retract your 'no boredom' brag at anytime. cheers richard
Interesting combination of the temporary and the permanent. I like the harsh lighting, suits the subject.
Richard Trim: Cheers Mike. Please please pleasenot too many fishy pics Ha! richard
love the tone to it, particularly like the shadows, unusual and well captured
Richard Trim: Cheers Tim. I'm sure this isn't the first 'chestnut paling' post on SC. richard
I like the lighting Richard and the shadows are great. This kind of fencing used to be used in our fields to stop snow filling the roads. Seen as we don't get much of the white stuff anymore,I have not seen any for ages.
Richard Trim: Yes I recall loads of such fencing often 20 or so yards from the road whilst walking in the Peak district. Cheers Tracy. richard
A good start for your series Richard. Hope the others will be as equally interesting.
Richard Trim: Only time will tell Brian. thanks richard
The lines and shadows make the image interesting. Nice work.
Richard Trim: Thanks Laura. richard
Dear old chespale fencing. I specified miles of it when o was a practicing landscape architect. I didn't think much about its aesthetic possibilities. It looks fluid and animated here, in contrast to the solid concerete structure.
Richard Trim: Thanks Ian. I hope you'll find the future postings (no pun intended) will provide some aesthetic pleasure inspite its utilititarian usuage. richard
Stark contrast, the concrete structure will be there longer than the rest, very harsh lighting too, it works very well.
Richard Trim: Coastal defences are going to have a very problematic future ... certainly on the East Anglian coast. cheers richard
I'm more interested in the machined round post because I used to sell them
Actually this should be interesting because you are right about the old chestnut pales. Promise I'll tell you when I'm bored
Richard Trim: Hope they have more potential photographically than machined posts Bill... but of course I could be completely wrong ;-) richard
Looks as if that great big long post wasn't quite long enough or sturdy enough to keep all the rest in place.
I like the geometry here, and the way the chestnut fence is almost draped over the concrete, like a piece of fabric. Series? You do what you like, it's your site.
Richard Trim: I will Ellie ... But I like to monitor those whom get bored very quickly. ;-)
Yes the fencing looked exactly like a piece of draped fabric. Thanks richard
very nice and crisp. I love the tones here Richard. Richard
Richard Trim: Many thanks Richard. richard
